Why leave Canada? By Kevin Barker.
Once I delved into the topic, however, I found citizenship to be a sticky commodity, at least from the taxation perspective. More on that later. In the meantime, it’s worth considering several potential taxation scenarios, and especially the possibility of changes to taxation with respect to estates.
Canada at the present time. Capital gains will be assessed on the appreciated value of real estate, owned by our parents, (excepting the principal residence) and their liquidated RRSPs will have taxes payable, just as if the owner had cashed them out while living. There are other fees that vary from province to province.
That’s how it stands now. But is not it possible that you can get some money from the land? It`s worth considering. In the view of the Harper government’s recent move to reset the retirement age of the OAP, I think it’s only prudent to expect more such ‘surprises’ in the future.
So, a very good question for your accountant is, how can I minimize the sundry taxes and fees associated with my parent’s estate? And tell him or her that all options are on the table, including staying home, emigrating, or pulling up stakes forever.
Offsetting any potential savings are some additional costs, such as regular visits back to the homeland, which will skew your annual budget substantially. A return ticket from Vancouver right now stands at just under $ 1,200, and somewhat less from Toronto. Not cheap! All of this needs to be considered in advance. If the reason for your move is purely financial, make sure it will actually save you money in the long run.
There’s the weather, not great for creaking bones. Also, retirement back in the homeland is not what it used to be. Costs for everything are higher. Canada is the land of the user fee. What is used to be economical or even gratis is now subject to some kind of rapidly escalating service charge: A swim at your community pool, bank services, availing yourself of the many services offered by mundane public institutions like libraries.
Try taking your dog to the vet, having your teeth fixed, buying your grandkids running shoes, or getting a haircut. You need a bank loan!
Perhaps you’re fed up with that, or the Canadian climate, and you’re lether of those popular. snowbird destinations like Southern California and Arizona. Maybe you’ve noticed Mexico is not as economical as it is used to be, or as safe!
Whatever the case, you are looking for alternatives, as I was when I began researching this book. I found many. I asked dumb questions and scrutinized the answers. Finally I settled on a handful of prospects and traveled to them all, including Costa Rica, where I stayed, although I had to admit it. I just kind of washed up on shore as many do, and ended up staying. Call it Kismet.
Nor did my quest end there. After nine years in Costa Rica I went further afield, and lived in Chile and Colombia. You’re not stuck with your choice once you’ve made it. South America is a big continent, and it’s closer than you think. What happened to the far pavilions suddenly come into sharp focus as potential retirement sites when you get closer, and the realm of choice widens.
In every country – from a tiny Vatican to a huge China – you can easily dig up a car and a small cart of problems. Ideal countries exist only in the dreams of pigs-tractor drivers and in fiery speeches of the oppositionists.

Although with such money, it will be comfortable in Zazhopinsk as well.

As for the minuses, yes, but the country has been fighting for 65 years, but despite all the boycotts and pressure, it does not prevent it from being developed and its citizens skating around the world with virtually no visas, accepting a huge number of returnees.
Of course there is no immigration to Israel, there is only repatriation. No one forces you to live there and no one imposes certain conditions for obtaining citizenship. Not satisfied, you can go where you want and without visas. This is what Eugene used, which then in each post pours pomoi onto the country, which actually helped him to exchange his alma mater twice for cheap sausage.
I have air conditioning at home, in cars, in buses, air conditioners, in shops, banks, schools, gardens everywhere air conditioners.
No problem. Summer is long, a lot of clothes in Israel do not need like in Canada, it’s by the way a significant saving.

Show at least one such. It’s very interesting to look at such a person.

If you pay attention, I have a polemic with Eugene and only about Israel. Actually, I came from this for the forum. And questions of general order, why immigrate it so to speculate, to reflect on where sausages are more and where it is cheaper and tastier. There are no bad or good countries, it’s important how you personally live in them, how you feel. From the fact that the neighbor’s grass is greener, or the girlfriend is steeper in shapes than your wife does not mean that I need to change the yard, or my wife.
What I saw, I wrote. I do not prove anything to anyone, everyone will go his own way, but the clever man will not stand on the rake simply, he will calculate his step, and not live with emotions and fantasies.
