Childbirth in Spain and nationality by birth.
We want to offer you Spain – a country with a mild Mediterranean climate, beautiful beaches, seafood of excellent quality, and even fresh vegetables and fruits all year round.
Childbirth in Spain gives the right to receive citizenship born on its territory. Kids are not taken away from moms. From birth to discharge, they are together, even if the mother does not have milk. The level of medical care is quite high. In addition, women who have already given birth in Spain, a great plus consider calm serenity and sincere goodwill of Spanish medical personnel.
Naturally, the question arises: which clinic to choose? In Spain there are two types of clinics: public and private. A large number of patients are served in public clinics, so doctors here have a lot of practice. However, this is only at first glance. Doctors practicing in private clinics in Spain are required to work for some time in public medical institutions. So according to medical experience, both types of clinics are practically equivalent.
On the equipment, too, there are no significant differences. The difference in cost (in public clinics is somewhat cheaper) and in the level of comfort. Private clinics in Spain are not much like hospitals, rather, in comfortable hotels. Another advantage of private clinics is the ability to enroll in a specific specialist. So, when choosing a clinic, the cost and desired level of comfort are taken into account.
And now about the acquisition of citizenship by birth.
When a child is born in Spain, parents should know that living in Spain legally (not including a student card or a Schengen visa: they do not give this right in this case), they can apply for citizenship for the baby, after one year from the moment of his birth. Immediately after the birth of a newborn, the parents are issued a certificate of birth of the child. After that, a family book (Libro de familia) is issued, where the father, mother, and child are inscribed, as the legitimate Spanish kingdom. But if none of the parents has a residence permit or permanent residence in Spain at the time of the birth of the child, then the parents must resolve the issue of residence permit in Spain in order to apply for Spanish citizenship.
Naturally, this can be done, but it’s no longer easy.
The most competent decision in this situation would be at least six months before childbirth urgently turn to professional lawyers and try to get a residence permit, even for a future mother. Also, there are a lot of different nuances in the legislation, knowing which, the design of Spanish citizenship for your child in the future will be possible.
A child born on the territory of Spain, but who, for one reason or another, received a different nationality, has the right to apply for Spanish citizenship at the age of 18 years.
In the situation with international families in which at least one of the parents is a Spaniard, the child acquires the citizenship after the birth. Thus, there is no need to queue up for citizenship.
A child born outside of Spain, at least one of whose parents is a citizen of that country, may also qualify for citizenship.
